How to Brine a Chicken

2017/09/152018/05/28 tbanwell

If you want the best possible bird, brine it! It enhances the flavour, distributes salt evenly and helps keep the chicken tender and moist.

Heading out for my solo delivery run, and got to start my day off right with a delivery to @abundancebakery that coincided with the first doughnuts coming right out of the fryer. Oh my sweet soft fried goodness, mmm, mmm, thanks guys! See everyone else soon for your pick-ups; check your email confirmation or our website for the schedule. I won't be sharing these doughnuts though, #sorrynotsorry
#tbt to that time we found a valentines heart inside a pork roast... Sending lots of love and appreciation to all our customers today! See you all on Saturday! 🥓💖
Howdy y'all! We're way down here in North Texas at the #apppa2019 conference. So great to be here with 180 other pastured poultry producers, where you can kill it with chicken jokes that wouldn't fly anywhere else. More inspired than ever to keep pushing for improvements to BC regs so that Canadians can enjoy access to diverse products like these entrepreneurs are providing while improving land and livelihoods.

Families that #graze together stays together 😉💕
Grazing right on into the new year. Happy 2019!
We hope you all enjoyed your Spray Creek Christmas turkey as much as we enjoyed ours! #pastureraised #organic #turkey
Found this guy in one of our 7' deep valve boxes today, it's a long-toed salamander. Amazing to me that these survive here, just metres from sagebrush and cactus. We rehomed it to our neighbour's spring-fed pond - better long term prospects, I think. Good luck little buddy!
Good morning pigs! It looks like an instagram filter #irl out here. #nofilter #sunrise #farmmornings #chores
While Twain and I keep everything ticking on the farm, Tristan is out bringing the meat to the people at the @squamishfarmersmarket Winter Market. Stop by and say hi! Today at the Adventure Centre 10-2.
Need eggs? No problem. Our organic, pasture-raised eggs are available today and tomorrow at the following times and locations: Pemberton Community Barn, today (Fri.) 4-6pm Squamish Farmers Market at the Adventure Centre, tomorrow (Sat.) 10am-2pm Whistler Parking Lot 4, tomorrow (Sat.) 4-6pm Lillooet KC Health, everyday!
Moved the piggies to a new paddock. #pastureraised #organicpork
We're enjoying a short shoulder-season visit to California, and very glad we finally had the chance to try @marinsunfarms in #pointreyes today - excellent pasture-raised meats! Very tasty and inspiring meal. Best thing you can do for your brussels sprouts or french fries: fry in lard-base multi-species fat mix.
Foggy fall morning on the farm.
The stockpile game is strong this year. Our goal is to graze all year round, as in #kickthehayhabit and we've done better every year. CAN... WE... MAKE IT?!?! #grassfed #grazeon #graze365 @prairiegoldmeat if I knock another couple months off feeding, can we be a-mig-os? Get it? #huckhuck #grazierjoke
The last poultry slaughter day of 2018. I arrive first to heat the scald tank, so I have this beautiful sky and the quiet of the early morning for reflection. Thanks to our customers, our crew, and to the turkeys and chickens that shared our pastures this summer. #earlymorning #sky #pasturedpoultry #christmasturkey #felfie #gratitude #harvestday
This afternoon we ran our cow herd through the handling facility to do 'preg checks'. We need to know who is bred so that we don't feed unproductive livestock over the winter. There are a few options for this - rectal palpation is hard on the cows (and the farmer!) and it's very expensive to get a vet out to our remote location for ultrasound. This is how we do it now - a new lab test called BioPRYN that is 99% accurate using a blood sample. We take a 2 mL blood draw from each cow's tail vein, send them to Lethbridge, and two days later we have our list. Fast, cheap, and minimally invasive. Of course, Baby Twain was supervising. #hightechfarming #labwork #bloodsample #farmlife #farmbaby #cowsofinstagram @carlosandfreya @carlosdanielramirezmartinez nice work guys!
It's a good day to be a pig on pasture. #pastureraised #pasturedpork #nomnom
